The custom-made smart homes will help the veterans gain independence after suffering catastrophic injuries.
Marine Corps Ronny Porta
The first home will be dedicated to Ronny Porta. A native of Peru, Ronny’s life-long dream was to become a U.S. Marine. After graduating high school, Ronny enlisted and two years later on May 5th 2007, while serving in Al Asad, Iraq the Humvee he was driving struck an improvised explosive device (IED), severely burning Ronny over 35% of his body. His fellow marines and dear friends, Msgt. Kenneth Mack and Cpl. Charles Palmer II made the ultimate sacrifice that day. Ronny suffered the loss of his right arm, fingers on his left hand and facial disfigurement. He has undergone 125 surgeries to aid in his recovery.
